I have already read this book seven times. It’s about pursuing the present over the perfect—but it is nonetheless a nearly perfect thing, a nearly perfect book. Shauna speaks exactly to my condition. Lauren Winner. I’ve watched Shauna walk this journey away from proving and pushing toward connection and grace, and as a friend, I’m proud /5(18). Kara has the perfect life. She gets perfect grades. She never messes up. Until now. Because perfection is an illusion, and Kara has been struggling to maintain it .

Kara Winters has always been the perfect girl. Ever since she scored perfect marks in all her grade school tests, and her teacher call her perfect, the name stuck. She used to have two best friends, a shot on the swim team and a good social life until her skin problem hit her out of nowhere.   Despite a rough start, Pushing Perfect was constantly entertaining, gripping, suspenseful, and the kind of book I'll definitely read again. It was a solid novel with some important issues raised - especially ones relating to contemporary teens - and I highly recommend this book if you want a fast-paced, thrilling story whose flawed heroine grows and learns from her mistakes.

The first thing that I have to say about this book before I go into the story or the characters is that much of the main character's inner workings can be very triggering to someone with these same issues.

A by-the-book whodunit ensues, with each clue leading to the next and pulling in a broad and fairly diverse cast of characters. Issues such as family pressure and the stigma around mental health disorders provide a bit of depth, though Kara’s anxiety seems to abate conveniently as the well-paced detective work of the group takes over.

Pushing Perfect is a story that will show that pushing for perfection isn’t good because there’s no thing such as perfect. All you have to do is to push for the right direction. Michelle Falkoff’s fiction and reviews have been published in ZYZZYVA, DoubleTake and.

How far would you go to be perfect. Pushing Perfect by Michelle Falkoff. A Book Review by Arthi Sivendra, West Orange Public Library Teen Book Reviewer. Kara Snow has always been known for being perfect in every aspect of her life. From being at the top of her class and having a seemingly picturesque family, no one could imagine Kara as anything other that perfect.

Pushing Perfect was a book focused on relationships and a mystery. While I enjoyed this book, I expected a little more. The main character annoyed me throughout the book and though she got better at the end, I had trouble relating to her. The only redeeming quality of the main character was her relationships with the other, more likable characters/5(30).

If it will help Kara get a perfect exam score and one step closer to a new life, it's a price she's willing to pay. But she never expects to get caught out.

Or that Alex, Raj and her other not-so-perfect new friends might get embroiled in a horrible mess that could ruin all of their futures. Sometimes perfection isn't what it's cracked up to be.

I do feel like ‘Pushing Perfect’ highlights an important topic. This story brings attention to the battle ground that is high school and how difficult it is. The story was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages and kept me guessing. This is a great YA book and I /5.
